Taiaroa Head Nature Reserve
Located on the windswept end of the Otago Peninsula, Pukekura/Taiaroa Head is world renown as the only mainland colony of albatross in the Southern Hemisphere. Pukekura is an important site for Māori, and later European settlers who named it Taiaroa Head. Today it is world renowned as the only mainland colony of albatross in the Southern Hemisphere. It is managed by a joint trust made up of Kāi Tahu rūnanga members, Korako Karetai Trust, Dunedin City Council and DOC.
On windy days, albatross can be seen from the visitor centre gliding over the headland, however, a visit to the observatory is required to see the nesting and courtship activity

I had previously paid for a tour so this time I just wandered around the headland watching the birds circle above.
