According to most websites it is a 2.8km trip each way (5.6km total) but some walkers reckon it's more like 6.4km. The elevation gain is 529 metres and the summit is 1,088 metres above sea level - offering 360-degree panoramic views of Lake Taupo and the surrounding landscapes from the top!
I am so pleased I finally got round to walking up here again. The last time was in 1992, I had recently emigrated to NZ and jumped off a ledge headfirst (the obligatory bungy jump), and needed something to do afterwards! 30 years later, and after many many drive-by's muttering "I must do that walk again", here I am. Such a fabulous walk.
PÅ«tauaki (Mt Edgecumbe) in the distance I think... (although a trailrunner at the trig told me it was Rainbow Mountain so if someone can confirm??) |
