This walk begins on the Waikareiti Track at Aniwaniwa (near the Waikaremoana Motor Camp). It takes an hour to reach the Lake Waikareiti, and a further 3 hours to walk around to the far end where the hut is situated. The lake's surface is at an altitude of 880 metres above sea level - and several small islets are found in the lake. One of these, Rahui, itself contains a tiny lake - one of New Zealand's very rare lakes within lakes. Our party consisted of 4 adults and 7 boys! Back in the days when my phone camera was rubbish!!!
